India’s Experiment With Compulsory Sterilisation

One of India’s darkest chapters was the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in the ’70s. It was also when her son Sanjay ordered the brutal and compulsory mass sterilisation programme to curb population growth. We return to a period whose scars are visible even today.
